Learning To Study The Bible

Join us for our new class Learning To Study The Bible. Each week will give you tools for a more fruitful reading of God’s Word. Have you ever walked away from the Bible and thought, “I have no idea what I just read“? Or have you said, “I read it but I just don’t get it“? Maybe you’ve wondered “How did they get ‘that’ out of that verse?” The point of this class is to help you get more out of your own study. But that’s not all: you will get more out of sermons, you will be better able to compare teachings you hear to Scripture, and you will be better equipped to responsibly handle God’s Word.

Since the Bible is God’s Word and not man’s our goal is to understand what God meant. This is the heart of what it means to be “exegetical” – where we are drawing out the meaning that is there in the text. We avoid reading into the text our own meaning. The process to help us do that better is the inductive study method, which lays out 3 steps: Observe, Interpret, and Apply. Observing the text means we are asking “What does it say?” Interpreting the text means we are then asking “What does it mean?” Finally, applying the text means asking “What do I do now?” This method brings out depth and richness in any study of the Bible.

This will be a very hands on class where we will work together through passages. So bring your Bible and a fresh notebook and we’ll see you at 10am on Sundays starting April 12th.
