“It is as though the letter to the Galatians and I are married. It is my wife.” – Martin Luther
“A person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we too have put our faith in Jesus Christ that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be saved.” – Galatians 2:16
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be yoked again by a burden of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1
Only by faith is a person justified before God. This is the essential truth of the Gospel and therefore it is the focus of Galatians. When he learned how false teachers were leading his new converts to turn away from that message the Apostle Paul wrote with great urgency. Over the course of six chapters he explains what freedom in Christ means while also covering many important topics: his personal testimony, the promises of Abraham, the law of Moses, the Sarah and Hagar saga, two covenants, Christian living, the Holy Spirit and more.
